CITiZAN Training: Excavation on Tennyson Down

18/06/201618/06/2016Heather Anderson

July 19th, 10am.
Tennyson Down, Isle of Wight

Situated on the highest point of Tennyson Down on the Isle of Wight is an enigmatic pre-historic enclosure which is being rapidly lost to cliff erosion. CITiZAN and the National Trust are looking for volunteers to help excavate and find out more about the site.

With a team of 15 volunteers on each day and three members of staff we will be hoping to get to the bottom of the origins of the enclosure. Due to expected high interest in this project we are looking for volunteers who can do two consecutive days (Tues/Wed, Thurs/Fri or Sat/Sun). During your time on the project you will learn about excavation and survey techniques and how you can become more involved with the CITiZAN project and the National Trust Isle of Wight Archaeological monitoring scheme on the Island.

Spaces are limited and booking is essential, please contact ABellisario@mola.org.uk.

For those interested in the archaeology, but not wanting to actively participate in the excavtion there are guided tours from the 22nd-24th (http://www.citizan.org.uk/events/location/South%20West/?page=1).
